OCA joins with Oneonta’s Arts Task Force and Main Street Oneonta to celebrate Dancin’ in the Streets, May 11-13, a weekend of music and dance in downtown Oneonta. The weekend  kicks off with OCA’s Taylor 2 concert on Friday, May 11 at 7:30pm. Then enjoy:

Free Street Fair: Saturday, May 12, noon-5pm. Main Street, Oneonta. Portions of Main Street will be closed to traffic during these hours.  Featured will be: Ballroom dancing in the streets and a Rockette-style kickline; Grammy-nominated Jeremy Wall and SUNY Oneonta’s funk band; Brooklyn’s Kakait Park; African drumming and dance with Godwin Abotsi and the SUNY Oneonta percussion ensemble;  plus family activities with games and prizes.

This exhilarating Celtic band was winner of the 2011 Scottish Folk band of the year Award by public vote. The group peppers their traditional, high-energy, foot-stomping fare with a touch of American soul. The band has toured the world for over four decades; their 1999 performance in Oneonta was highly acclaimed.

This exhilarating Celtic band was winner of the 2011 Scottish Folk Band of the Year Award by public vote.  The Edinburgh (Scotland) Evening News has dubbed the band, named after the Battlefield area of Glasgow, “a national treasure.”

Battlefield Band plays Scottish music with a rare passion and joy. Inspired by a rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by the strength of a vibrant Scottish cultural scene the group has done much to create, Battlefield Band has been at the forefront of a great revival in Scottish music.

The band has toured the world for over 30 years, updating their lineup and enthusiasm along the way; their 1999 performance in Oneonta was highly acclaimed.  The band has released over 30 albums, including last year’s ”Line-up.”

Performers are: Mike Katz (pipes, whistles, bazouki, guitar, bass); Alasdair White (fiddle, whistle, bazouki, pipes); Sean O’Donnell (vocals, guitar), and Ewen Henderson (fiddle, pipes, vocals).

Fain’s new multi-media solo program, PORTALS, features innovative audio and video collaborations with fellow artists.

This free holiday concert is part of OCA's 85th Anniversary celebration. Fountain will play works by Bach, Copland, Ives and others, including works from his recent album, "American Ivory."

OCA presents pianist Richard Fountain in a free holiday concert as part of OCA’s 85th Anniversary Season celebration.

Fountain’s concert features works by J.S. Bach, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Edward MacDowell, and Gary D. Belshaw. He recently released a solo album, “American Ivory,” featuring piano works by American composers.

Fountain has been a soloist with the Marion (Ind.) Philharmonic Orchestra, the UNL Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, and the Plainview (Tex.) Symphony. He is principal keyboardist with the Lincoln (Neb.) Symphony Orchestra and the Lubbock (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2011 was invited to participate in the Westfield International Fortepiano Competition.

Fountain is assistant professor of collaborative piano at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Tex. He holds doctoral and master’s degrees in piano performance from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and a bachelor’s from Taylor University. He is an adjudicator, a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, and was pianist for the world premiere of the musical “Broadcast,” by Scott Murphy and Nathan Christensen.

Fountain appeared in Oneonta in 2007, as part of OCA’s 80th anniversary celebration.

Chatham members Andrew Fouts (baroque violin), Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba), and Scott Pauley (theorbo and baroque guitar) will be joined by five guests:  Julie Andrijeski (baroque violin), Danny Mallon (percussion), soprano Nell Snaidas, and baroque dancers Paige Whitley-Bauguess and Thomas Baird.

At 10:30am on March 8 at The Oneonta Theatre, Chatham Baroque will offer a preview of its evening performance. Admission to the morning preview, to last about an hour, is only $3 at the door.

Fresh from performances in New York, London, and a tour in France, the pair will be joined in Oneonta by acclaimed French pianist Vincent Adragna.

The group will offer selections by Brahms, Ravel and modern composers. Featured will be a work by SUNY Oneonta professor emeritus and Catskill Conservatory music director Carleton Clay.

Don’t miss the pre-curtain cello performance by OCA Young Artist Jacob Efthimiou at 7:15 pm.

Duo Parnas recently released a third CD. Madalyn is completing a master’s as a Marshall Scholar at London’s Royal Academy of Music, and Cicely has appeared on NPR’s “Performance Today” as a Young Artist in Residence.

Grammy Award-winning bassist Ron Carter is one of the most original, prolific and influential bassists in jazz. With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, he has performed with many greats. Join us for an anniversary gala.

Jazz master and Grammy Award-winner Ron Carter is one of the most original, prolific and influential bassists in jazz today. With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, he has recorded and performed with many greats, including Lena Horne, Bill Evans, b.b. king, the Kronos Quartet, and Dexter Gordon.

Carter, a member of the famed Miles Davis Quintet, was named Outstanding bassist of the Decade by The Detroit News, and Jazz Bassist of the Year by Down Beat magazine. In 1993 Carter won a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Group, and another in 1998 for music for the film ‘Round Midnight.

Carter has scored and arranged music for PBS projects, and numerous films, including A Gathering of Old Men (starring Lou Gosset Jr.), The Passion of Beatrice, and Blind Faith. Carter recently received France’s premier cultural award, the medallion and title of Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters.

The Golden Striker Trio features celebrated artists Russell Malone (on guitar) and Donald Vega (on piano). The trio is touring several cities in the spring of 2013, including New York, where the musicians will play the famed Blue Note.
